Understand the descriptions
USA Containers’ FAQ describes one-trip containers as having made a single cargo journey. It distinguishes wind-and-watertight (WWT) containers from cargo-worthy units by certification. Its ordering guide also lists as-is units as uninspected.
| Description | What to establish before ordering |
|---|---|
| One-trip | Which cosmetic wear is acceptable, and will you see representative or actual-unit photos? |
| Wind and watertight | What inspection supports the description, and which defects are permitted? |
| Cargo worthy | Which current documentation is included for your intended transport use? |
| As-is | What remains unknown, what inspection is allowed, and what remedies are excluded? |
Separate storage from transport
Tell the supplier whether you want on-site storage or intend to ship cargo. Do not treat a storage description as proof that a container meets a carrier’s requirements. For transport, ask the supplier and your carrier which documents and inspections they require for the planned movement.
Ask for an inspection you can act on
- Request photographs of the exterior, doors and floor.
- Ask how doors, seals and visible damage are checked.
- Confirm whether photos show your allocated unit or an example.
- Ask what happens if the delivered condition differs from the written order.
If cosmetic appearance matters, describe your standard in writing. “Used” alone does not specify how much wear you are willing to accept. If you plan to store moisture-sensitive goods, discuss suitability with the seller rather than assuming the condition label answers every environmental question.
Use a simple order record
Keep the agreed condition, size, permitted wear, inspection arrangements and remedy terms together with the quote. Compare suppliers against that same record. Ask for clarification before accepting a substitution.
Should you choose one-trip?
Compare it with a used option of the same size. State why appearance or remaining condition matters to your project, then decide whether the quoted difference addresses that need. We have not inspected a USA Containers unit and do not assign a condition score or product rating.
